

AES Wind Generation Announces Commercial Operation of 99 MW
Wind Projects, Hebei and Inner Mongolia, China
BEIJING, CHINA – July 8, 2010 -- AES Wind Generation, a division of AES Corporation (NYSE: AES), announced today that it has achieved commercial operation of the 49.5 MW Huanghua Phase II and the 49.5 MW Dongqi wind projects in China. Through the start of commercial operation of these projects, AES Wind Generation's operating capacity in China increased by 99 MW to 198 MW.
"These projects double AES Wind Generation's operating capacity in China, a market of strategic importance for us," said Andrés Gluski, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of AES.
AES partnered with Guohua Energy Investment Company Ltd. (Guohua) and holds 49 percent equity interest in each project. The Huanghua project uses 33 X 1.5 MW Sinovel wind turbines and the Dongqi project uses 33 X 1.5 MW Dongfang wind turbines.
The 49.5 MW Huanghua expansion adds 49.5 MW, doubling the site's total operating capacity to 99 MW. Huanghua Phase II achieved commercial operation on April 12, 2010 and is located in Hebei province about 200 km south east of Beijing. All of the power will be purchased by Hebei Provincial Electrical Company.
The 49.5 MW Dongqi wind project achieved commercial operation on June 30, 2010 and is located in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, approximately 140 km southeast of AES‘ 49.5 MW Hulunbeier wind project. The Dongqi project has the potential to expand to 198 MW. All of the power will be purchased by Hulunbeier Power Bureau.
AES is also partnering with Guohua to develop the 49.5 MW Chenqi wind project, which is expected to begin operations during the second half of 2011. AES Wind Generation has approximately 1,700 MW of wind capacity in operation globally including China, Europe and the U.S.
